“Your Security Is Only As Good As the Weakest Link”
“As some businesses move their IT infrastructure to the cloud, we’d like to point out that security doesn’t stop at the server (in the cloud). All connections and access must follow your security plan.
As a parallel: With high-speed fiber internet, if you have a power problem to your building or an under-powered firewall, you won’t benefit at all from that high-speed fiber. It’s each link in the chain that must be as strong as the others for the entire chain to hold up to your expectations.
So in a business, moving your infrastructure to the cloud means you still maintain local security – your security is only as good as the weakest link.
We’ve been promoting a multi-layer security approach for years. It can be broken down in several ways:
- Server, transport and application security (cloud or local)
- Physical and device security (endpoint protection and encryption)
- Human security (physical, social engineering and passwords)
Hopefully this will give you a checklist to work against to make sure you’re doing all you can to protect yourself and your business – your security is only as good as the weakest link!“

A Message from Ethos Distributed Solutions
“Every single employee at Akamai Systems has ALWAYS been very helpful and ALWAYS goes above and beyond any scope of work to make sure our needs are met. They are fast and very efficient in everything they do. Akamai provides non-stop service to its clients day and/or night. If I send an email asking for help, I have a response within 5 minutes with either an answer or a reply letting me know they received my email and will be in contact to resolve my issue. I’d give a single memory, however, every memory Akamai has always been on top of it.”

The Biggest Threat to Your Data Security?
You and your employees, that’s who!
It’s an unfortunate reality, but our workforce can often be our worst enemy when it comes to data security; creating vulnerabilities and leaving our systems open to hackers, viruses, data breaches and data loss. More often than not, we do this through completely harmless, everyday activities like opening compromised emails and links.
Everyone at all levels of an organization needs to be armed with the knowledge of good security practices. Without implementing a company-wide security training program, systems are left vulnerable to a host of attacks.
Another crucial step in preventing system attacks, is to configure a firewall to monitor user activity and website visits throughout your organization. An Acceptable Use Policyis helpful in establishing what your organization will and will not allow from its employees.
