The Minerva Group and Akamai Systems have been working together for just over two years. Lisa Isom, the CEO, started the company 27 years ago when she was about to have a daughter. She knew the regular 50-60 hours necessary at the CPA firm she was working at was not going to be compatible with a newborn. The Minerva Group was born; her own, home-based bookkeeping practice! How did she come up with the name? In Lisa’s own words:“When I was small my uncle Shelby called me Minerva. I thought it was horrible until I was in a mythology class and learned more about the Roman goddess Minerva. She is the goddess of wisdom, commerce, crafts, music, poetry, and medicine. Basically an amazing strong woman that showed courage and steadfastness in her cause, even through hardships. The Minerva Group is one of my causes and it has been hard many times, but allows me to work with amazing people and make a difference.”
In 2010, the business was officially incorporated and added its first employee. Since 2016, they’ve steadily been growing and adding 1-2 employees each year. Today they have 10 employees and continue to grow. Their passion is supporting business stability and growth; beyond general accounting services, they work with growing companies to help them get to the next level. They do this by partnering with business owners, helping them make better strategic decisions by using financial statements as the guide, including budget development, KPIs and strategic plans.
